Episode 14: Designing and shaping a hydrofoil
Heliciel video tutorial, episode 14
The foil model supplied with Heliciel (a 1 m half foil, chords from 236 to 40 mm, NACA 0006 profile, in water at 4 m/s: 463 N of lift, lift-to-drag ratio 28.5), transformed step by step: half wing and full wing (926 N, same lift-to-drag ratio), span increased to 1.3 m (1,636 N, ratio 30.3), chord distribution as a polynomial law, rectangular foil (ratio 25.7), cambered NACA 2408 profile (ratio 35.3) and an imposed 7° angle of attack (18.1), the generatrix that changes neither lift nor drag but the pitching moment, the curvature window (sweep, dihedral, offset), 3D scenes and model export, then on to the PRO CFD bench.
