Film C4: Hydrofoil and wing CFD, lift, drag and cavitation check
HELICIEL PRO CFD video tutorial, film C4
The hydrofoil model supplied with Heliciel, 2 m span, NACA 0006 profile, in water at 4 m/s and 0.5 m under the surface, is sent in one menu from the designer to the Heliciel PRO CFD bench and simulated with a fine mesh of about two million cells. Pressure on the foil, pressure and velocity cuts, iso-surfaces, attached flow lines, cavitation check (lowest point around 86,000 Pa, far above the 1,300 Pa vapour pressure), lift and drag compared with BEM, then which mesh to choose on the wing supplied with Heliciel: from Level 1 to Level 3, the lift moves by 2 % while the drag drops by 17 %.
