Film C6: Wind turbine CFD, mesh presets and mesh convergence compared
HELICIEL PRO CFD video tutorial, film C6
The same 4-metre, 3-blade wind turbine, modeled in the Heliciel designer by the blade element method (BEM), calculated five times in the Heliciel PRO CFD bench, from Level 1 (21,000 cells, one minute of meshing) to Level 7 (15 million cells, an overnight calculation). The mesh tightens around the blades, pressure, velocity cuts, flow lines and iso-surfaces become sharper; thrust converges fast towards BEM (57 % gap at Level 1, 4 % at Level 5), torque much more slowly.
